The idea of a C3 Church in Asheville began in October of 2007, when a group of believers gathered at the Renaissance Hotel downtown to pray and seek God for a dynamic, spirit-filled church expression that would reach the people of Asheville and WNC.
In February of 2008, under the leadership of Pastors Dean & Jill Sweetman of C3 Church Atlanta, C3 Church Asheville began its journey as a satellite. Weekly meetings were held on Friday evenings at the YMI Cultural Center, with ministers and musicians traveling from Atlanta to Asheville each week.
By the beginning of 2009 it was obvious to everyone that the time to officially establish a C3 Church in Asheville had come. Both, Dean & Jill along with the local leadership team felt God’s direction to appoint Pastors for C3 Church Asheville.
On Easter Sunday evening of 2009 C3 Church officially launched at the Double Tree Hotel in Biltmore. Immediately the church began to pray for a building of their own. And in October of that year they joyfully moved into their first building at 168 Merrimon Avenue!
Throughout 2010 the church continued to grow and thrive. With the addition of many new friends and scores of new believers, C3 Church enjoyed a productive year filled with many accomplishments. The worship and creative ministries released their first album ‘Atmospheres’, which received both national and international acclaim from the Christian music industry, they also hosted the first annual worship conference. The church hosted multiple conferences, retreats and special events such as concerts in Pritchard Park and a live worship recording at the Diana Wortham Theater. Ministries for teens and young adults were launched. And the church kept increased its focus on the support of local charities such as the Red Cross and the Mana Food Bank.
By January 2011, growth on all fronts required immediate expansion. We began the year by expanding the main auditorium to increase seating capacity and opened up the café area to accommodate more hospitality for guest reception. In March we upgraded our ministries to children by launching a new curriculum and doubling the size of our volunteer teams. By Easter, C3 celebrated its second birthday with a record attendance nearly reaching 400.
